Monthly Gas Cost Recovery Rate - $2.237 per GJ, February 2012

Effective for consumption from February 1, 2012 to February 29, 2012

The Gas Cost Recovery Rate (GCRR) is the amount charged to recover the cost incurred to purchase the natural gas used by our customers.

  • The Gas Cost Recovery Rate is set at the start of each month.
  • Each monthly rate is based on an estimate of what gas will cost on the open market during the month.
  • If actual gas costs during a month are higher or lower than the estimate, the Gas Cost Recovery Rate will be increased or decreased in the following month to make up the deficit or to refund the surplus.

2012 Interim Rate Change

Effective on and after February 1, 2012

In Decision 2012-013, the Alberta Utilities Commission approved an interim rate increase of 12.603% to be applied to currently approved distribution charges. The interim rate change enables AUI to recover increasing costs of providing gas distribution service.

The increase applies to the distribution service charges currently approved for 2011 (Base Energy Charge, Fixed Delivery Charge, Demand Charge and Default Supply Provider Admin. Fee). For an average residence using 115 GJ annually, this equates to an increase of approximately $5.17 per month. The interim rate change does not apply to Gas Cost Charges (Rider ‘D’), Third-Party Transportation Cost Charges (Rider ‘G’) or special charges.
